Another use of the video DMA engine is to enable advanced scaling use cases like crop and zoom, and scale to picture in picture. Without the use of memory, only basic scaling can be performed from one resolution to another resolution, as shown in This Figure.
With the video DMA engine in the video path, it is possible to enable a crop and zoom feature as shown in This Figure by cropping out of memory.
