System design planning methodology consists of understanding all of the system requirements based on the target application. This includes identifying the appropriate Versal® device with the correct features (e.g., the number of DDRMC IP, AI Engines, etc.). You must also consider power and thermal requirements. With the appropriate device selection, the next steps are system design, including hardware/software co-design of the target application on the device, system verification, and bring-up and debug.

To ensure you take full advantage of the diversity of compute elements available in Versal® ACAP and use the most efficient implementation flow, Xilinx recommends the system design methodology flow shown in the following figure, which applies to all system design types.

Important: Analyze your safety and security requirements upfront (e.g., isolation needs, secure boot, etc.). For more information, see the Versal ACAP Technical Reference Manual (AM011). For detailed information on security features, see the Versal ACAP Security Manual (UG1508) available from the Design Security Lounge (registration required) on the Xilinx website.
