The FEC-only interface permits direct access to the RS-FEC encoder and RS-FEC decoder. This enables support for a wide range of use cases that use RS(544,514) FEC.
Every 100 Gb/s capable RS-FEC instance is independently clocked. An individual 100 Gb/s capable RS-FEC instance can be configured as a 100 Gb/s entity. Alternatively, an individual RS-FEC instance can be configured as two 50 Gb/s slices; each slice with its independent datapath interface and associated control signaling. Note that both 50 Gb/s slices share the same clock.
