The AMD Alveo™ U50 data center accelerator card, shown in the following figure, is a single slot, low profile form factor passively-cooled card operating up to a 75W maximum power limit. It supports PCI Express® ( PCIe® ) Gen3 x16 or dual Gen4 x8, is equipped with 8 GB of high-bandwidth memory (HBM), and Ethernet networking capability.

The Alveo U50 is designed to accelerate memory-bound, compute-intensive applications in financial computing, computational storage, data search and analytics. The Alveo U50LV is recommended for accelerating machine learning inference workloads. Both cards are identical with the exception of the core operating voltage. The U50 operates with the core voltage set to VNOM (0.85V) and the U50LV has the core voltage set to VLOW (0.72V).

The Alveo U50/U50LV card is available in a passive cooling configuration only and is designed for installation into a data center server where controlled air flow provides direct cooling to the card.

The following figure shows the Alveo U50 accelerator card with half-height bracket installed. The U50LV has identical form factor and interfaces.

CAUTION:
Alveo accelerator cards are designed to be installed into a data center server, where controlled air flow provides direct cooling. If the cooling enclosure is removed from the card and the card is powered-up, external fan cooling airflow MUST be applied to prevent over-temperature shut-down and possible damage to the card electronics. Removing the cooling enclosure voids the board warranty.

For additional information about airflow requirements, see the Alveo U50 Data Center Accelerator Cards Data Sheet (DS965).
